Vikings United Baseball Hits It Out of the Park

Congratulations to Vikings United Baseball on winning a championship in their inaugural tournament.

Vikings United Baseball is a division of Vikings United (A TEAM UP, NFP Program established in partnership with Homewood-Flossmoor High School to promote healthy lifestyles, inspire leadership and encourage teamwork for youth through elite sports training, programming and life skill development.) Vikings United now serves as the official feeder BOYS Basketball and Baseball program for HFHS.

This past weekend the Vikings United Baseball fall ball team led by Coaches Brad Meyer, Bryan Duntz, and Jay Readey won the 12U championship of the fall season-opening tournament at Ho Chunk.

“This tournament was a fantastic opportunity for Vikings United to establish itself as a competitor on the regional baseball team. The coaching and play on the field were top-notch, and now people know who Vikings United are. We couldn’t have hoped for a better competitive start for a program that wants to distinguish itself for top-level play,” said Coach Jay Readey.

After going 3-0 in pool play with 48 runs scored and only 5 allowed, the Vikings beat the Indiana Playmakers in the semifinals and the St. John Tomahawks in the championship game on Monday.

Coach Brad Meyer lead the team to 5 wins in the program’s first 5 games while also teaching a lot of baseball along the way. During the tournament, Matthew Hawkins, Dennis Perl and Chad Readey all hit home runs. Collin Duntz had several triples, John Pohrte and Simon Brush had countless doubles. Simon worked most of the tournament as catcher behind the plate.

Dennis Perl started the championship game and went four solid innings, giving a 7-2 lead to the bullpen of John Pohrte and Chad Readey, who brought home the win. Every single player contributed meaningful plays to the Vikings’ wins through the tournament; it was truly a team victory.

The winning Fall Ball 12 U Tournament Roster Included the following:
